Lorsque deux des trois sources que je soutiens et prône depuis des lustres s'associent finalement pour ce qui risque de devenir une belle réussite en terme d'instruction et de production, cela ne peut que m'amener à dire : today is a very good day. :)

In April of 2010, Paladin's video crew went to the Crucible to lay the groundwork for a new video series. As is always the case on these trips, we spent long hours shooting video and reviewing footage, and at the end of it, we returned with a great deal of new material.
But it wasn't enough.
There was no way that we could capture everything we needed to in just a few days, even if we worked 24/7. We knew that going in, and planned to come back in a month's time to finish shooting. So on May 31st, we returned to the Crucible again, intending to finish the job or die trying. We didn't purchase return tickets, because we just didn't know when we'd be coming back. Saying good-bye to friends and loved ones, we boarded a plane. This time, however, we were accompanied by Peder Lund, the owner and president of Paladin Press. It was going to be an interesting shoot.
At the destination airport, we met Lee Morrison, the proprietor of Urban Combatives. Lee is a big, extremely fit man, with sleeve tattoos and a very easygoing demeanor. He and Kelly McCann had been corresponding for some time, and Kelly suggested that Paladin produce some videos with Lee as the author. After having watched his existing material, we immediately recognized him as an awesome talent: fast, strong, moves well, and able to transmit really good information with authority and style. Our first few days at the Crucible were going to be spent with Lee on his projects, and then we would move on to the rest of the videos we began work on in April.
Days 1 and 2
There really is something about walking into the bay of Crucible's Building 5. There's the privilege of it, definitely: not everyone just gets to go on in and set up video equipment. It's a good feeling to be greeted by name by men who have been there, done that, don't make a big deal of it, and are at the very top of their profession. You won't find any men with puffed-out chests, fragile egos, or chips on their shoulders here: Crucible doesn't hire them. It's kept clean, it's well organized, but it's a place where work gets done.
We couldn't have come at a worse time.
Everyone not teaching a class was entirely engaged in a massive project, the details of which are nobody else's business. It was the sort of thing that came up after scheduling the shoot, so it couldn't be helped. And they'd be working on it for at least another week. Everyone had something to do, and there was no time to sit around. Despite being unbelievably busy, Kelly gave us a few minutes of his time before we got to work shooting Lee's two projects. On the night of the second day of work, we went to Kelly's house on the lake to drink, eat steaks, and wakeboard. It was a small break in the action, but very welcome and much appreciated. Early morning on the third day, however, we were on the road going back to Crucible. We had a lot more work ahead of us.

Crucible Chronicles: Part Two
In Part One of this series, we described the first few days of Paladin's second trip to Kelly McCann's Crucible in 2010.
Days 3 and 4
We spent Thursday and Friday with Frank Conway, Senior Director of Training at Crucible, and Tony Longinotti, Director of Vehicle Operations. Both of whom are expert drivers and teach many of Crucible's emergency on-road driving courses. If you want to learn how to get yourself out of a skid (or not enter one in the first place), brake and turn on a dime, do a quick off-road recovery, or perform any number of high-speed driving operations in the field or on the street, listen to what they tell you.
The track we went to was off-site, but not too far from Building 5.

The first part of the morning saw us filming a driving scenario that involved some pyrotechnics and outfits one might typically see in high-risk areas of the Middle East. Between setting up multiple camera angles, repeating the scenario several times, and some inside-the-car shots, it was almost noon.
That's when it got hot. Imagine working through the afternoon in the hot sun with 90% humidity and temperatures in the high 80's. Now imagine doing it while standing on tarmac. But hell, if the Crucible guys do it every day, we could manage for a couple of days. So drinking plenty of water, we got most of the outdoor shots done Thursday.
On Friday, we greeted the water truck for the skid pad work. To get the cars to skid on the dry pavement, the water truck opened up the back and just started gushing clean water onto the tarmac, driving in slow laps over and over on the skid pad. Easy enough, though we had to shoot the material fast before the sun evaporated up all the water (and hence would require more time-consuming H2O application). After that, we shot the remainder of the outdoor shots except for what you would see inside the car. This required some setup (expertly engineered by best-selling Paladin author and long-time Crucible employee John Garman) and the use of small Flip cameras purchased just for this purpose. Between the creative repurposing of foam target backers and some ingenuity, we got several simultaneous camera angles of what your hands on the wheel and your feet on the gas and brake would be doing during straight-line braking, brake-and-turns, slaloms, and other complex driving tasks.

Day 5
On Saturday, we were thankfully inside Building 5, out of the hot sun. We greeted Kelly early in the morning and got right to work on his project. Secrecy forbids us from providing any specifics, but the intensity of the training we captured is significant. Keeping to Kelly's tight schedule, we let him return to the massive project he'd been working on (and would continue to work on for the rest of the week), and turned our cameras on John Buchanan and his shotgun video.
Crucible's shoot house is large, with several rooms and hallway configurations suitable for all manner of tactical scenarios. As shotguns tend to be the weapons of choice for many people interested in home defense, we captured a good bit of material relating to use of the shotgun inside the home. Between the shoot house scenarios and some "talking head" material shot in Building 5, we were about 75% done with John Buchanan's video.
A worthy accomplishment, but we had a lot more to do, and we hadn't even gotten to Phil Motzer's video yet.

Pour tout ces stages il est demandé d'avoir un bagage technique particulier? un conditions physique?
Je parle pas forcement de ce stage ci, mais des stages avec des pro (acds, Crucible, nds,...)
Je me tâte pour faire un stage un de ces jour... mais disons qu' a part monter du placo, faire du béton et changer des couches mes activité extra pro sont très limitées ces 3 dernière années.
La fin du construction est proche et la fille demande un peu moins de temps, donc je devrais avoir un peu de temps

en fait c'est un peu étrange, disons qu'il y a plusieurs lectures selon que tu ais un gros bagage technique ou pas.
c'est la ou c'est très intéressant.
ensuite cela ne change rien d'etre novice car meme nous nous sommes novice dans certaines situation.
le but c'est donner de tres tres bonne bases pour la self et cela marche de suite, pas de la vous avez vu la premiere etape ensuite revenez pour voir la deuxième.
lee est citoyen americain? :)
les autres jours sont des evolutions.
le but etre efficace pour ensuite affiner car cela reste du travail global pour des gens qui font des recherches sur l'efficacité
la preuve:
le stage senshido, tous les patients 0 avait a la fin de la journée vraiment changé dans l'approche de la self.
le stage urbancombatives idem , ceux du forum peuvent en témoigner(bien que attention j'emets des reserves concernant l'approche de la self en Angleterre, autres temps autres mœurs ;#)
pour les stages nds la c'est carrément bluffant .
pour les stages acds il faudrait interroger les instructeurs du forum.
on(le on reste tres évasif car je ne peux en aucun cas parler pour les instructeurs et ni pour moi , ne l'etant pas moi meme) est de plus en plus sur de l'instruction avec un travail énorme en amont pour donner un travail d'une telle qualité et aussi simple a recevoir.
