http://senshido.savi.ca/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10393&start=50#wrap

Georges summed up "the Senshido philosophy" in a nut shell here beautifully:

Citer
One thing though: Being peaceful is different from being a pacifist: A pacifist will always choose non-violence, even in the face of danger to him and others. A Peaceful person will keep the peace until it is no longer feasible to do so, and not because of ego, but because of the risk of death/ injury to him/ her and his/her loved ones.

As stated on our old and still present website, Senshido is about change and evolution, it about growth and not remaining in the status quo... and people are entitled to change their minds and opinions so quoting shit people wrote days, months or years ago is assuming people never change and remain the same... for me, that is a state of staleness and stagnation... change is imminent, there's a saying that goes, those who reject change, oppose evolution. I happen to agree with that.

Yes, there has indeed been a change of thought process with Senshido and that has begun with me, after all, I am the 'father' of Senshido and it listens to what I say :D

I lived a very violent life for most of my adult life as most of you may or may not know. Both through work and my own personal perceptions of life filtered through a veil of anger, judgement and dare I say, hatred. These were and are still my personal 'demons' if you will. I got tired. Literally. Physically, approaching a burn out and finally got mono in 2006 which miraculously lasted a year instead of 3 to 5 at my age.

I began to understand, for me, and this is not imposed on other than shared in the hopes more will gravitate towards my way of thinking through Senshido as I have found success through it, that concentrating on the violence, focusing on it, fearing it, did indeed mean to one degree or another, consciously or subconsciously, looking for it. And I found it. Plenty of it.

Call it the law of attraction, call it karma call it whatever you want to, believe in it or not, my experiences have been that we are what we think and we manifest what we think about. Science (pseudo or not0 has found that constant, repetitive thoughts can actually be measured into energetic fields that are put forth and eventually maifested into a reality.

Mother Theresa always said, never invite me to anti violence ralley, I will never show up, invite me to a pro-peace ralley and I will be the first one there and if you research the majority of successful people in any field, you’ll find that it wasn’t be concetrating on the negatives that achieved them success but concentrating on the positive.

When I changed my thought patterns, I went from getting into several altercations per year for over 16 years of my life to 2 in the last 5 years… in my opinion, the proof is in the pudding… that’s not to say I am against carrying weapons, I’ve admitted and still do that if I travel to certain areas, I will most likely be carrying some form of weapon on me depending on the nature of the situation.

I believe most of my team began seeing it this way after countless discussion over the years and I am glad they did. I do believe that this is an evolution in my persona has trmendously shifted my life for the better, this does not mean I have become a ‘pacifist’ but definitely more of a peaceful person. I am much more impressed by Gandhi’s approach to war than General Patton’s for example. I am against the taking of human life though I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to end as many as necessary to get myself and loved ones home if it came down to it.

The last situation I was invilved in that became physical was in late 2008. I was food shopping literally a block away from my home and noticed an agitated looking fellow in the food mart slamming shit around, dropping articles into his shopping cart with agression and anger. I only took notice of him then avoided him the best I could until I was at the cash and ready to leave… As I was exiting the store, I heard him ourside the shop barking at his girlfriend “I wanna know what the fuck he was looking at!” Didn’t think he was referring to me, so I exited and began my way only to find him in my face as made it a feww feet past the doors. He starts in on me, and his girl begins pulling him away begging him to let it go and just leave with her. He brushes her off , begins to shove me some and asks what I was looking at. I tell him I am sorry, that I notices he was pissed in there, that I don’t know why and that it isn’t really my business and I all I want to do is go home. He keeps on and eventually, after a minute or two of attempting to defuse, his body lnaguage and tone were steadily getting more aggressive and his girlfriend was really helping the situation… seemed the more she tried to defuese it, the angrier he got.

So up came my knee from under his field of vision which doubled him over instantly… I put a little hip in there… he goes down and I apologize to both him and her as I didn’t want to do this, all I wanted to do was go home… and off I go making a huge detoru in case he is watching as I don’t need them following me or knowing where I live… my home was in plain view from the store front. I didn’t enjoy that, at all. It actually bothered me that I had to strike someone… again… but I didn’t turn the other cheek either…
A helmet horseback riding, to me, is not like carrying a weapon on me 24/7. I know self defense, I know how to defuse, I know how to pick up on pre-contact indicators, I know how to manage my fear and confrontations in general and I also know how to take a man apart with my bare hands, that to me is sufficient enough ‘insurance’ and to carry a blade, a metal pen and a DNA retrieving flashflight or a gun would be way too much overkill…

Now living in Lebanon, I would, like Georges probably own a gun and a few blades as well. The environment dicates it, at least for me… and Georges obviously. But to load up when I was living in a suburb of Montreal to go rent DVD or grocery shop, simply doesn’t make sense, even though a few months prior to my situation a 19 year old was shot dead a few streets away from where I lived… it was a gang related incident.

My bro Ian “Vampiro” Hodgkinson was recently accosted and held captive for over 23 hours during a robbery while he was driving back from work late one night on a highway in Mexico city. They held him up at gun point and robbed him of his SVU, wallet and all personal belongings… he id at one point think he was going to die. He was unarmed… by his own admitance, had he been armed, he would have most probably been killed that night, instead, he walked away unharmed and only lost material goods… perhaps if he was armed, he would have been much more inclided on using it which would have potentially lead to 1 or many deaths including his… who knows… point is he wasn’t and he’s alive… but he lives in Mexico city… not Brossard, Quebec.

I used to argue with Matt Thornton vehemently, you can still find my posts on this very forum, but the more I experienced, the older I got, the more I realized he was right to a certain extent… though I still don’t like the way he expressed himself back then about it and I don’t agree that one shouldn’t train for self defense, as that to me is, as CF stated, wearing helmet when horseback riding, but to me carrying a weapon would be like wearing a suit of armour while horseback riding… a little over kill.

Now are we impossing this on people, No. We are merely sharing our perspectives and experiences, you have a right to disagree as we have a right to disagree. And frankly, as much as we may come across to some as ‘our way is right yours is wrong, do what you feel’, you guys come across the exact same way and even label us for our beliefs with statements like scenario training replaed by cumbaya and the like when you know very well, that is obviously NOT the case…

We’re teaching the same thing as we always have, the difference now is that we’re, in my opinion, teaching it from a place of light rather than dark, I am teaching without my own personal judgement or fear or anger at the injustices of the world which is what and how I taught for over 10 years. I personally, along with my team, achived much more this way, expanded to bigger markets , reached many more people that just the RBSD crowds and made a hell of a difference in countless lives on a much higher level thatn just pure and applied and self defense.

And one can argue all they want, label us as you see fit if you wish, poke fun, criticize or get defensive as much as they like, wouldn’t be the first time ;) but for every one critic, we have a hundred others whose lives have and are breathing easier because of Senshido and nothing is going to change that…

I always share my successes and my path towards that success, this ‘new’ path is proving to work wonders and we are reaching many more people, those that need it, with our new perspective and the ripple effect of that work is growing and spreading. I know I am going to lose a few or many of the ‘hardcore’ crowds out there and I am more than prepared to make that sacrifice because in my opinion and based on the testimonials and people we are reaching, it it is for the fundamental betterment of what we hope and believe to be a better more peaceful way of living.

Gandhi said ‘Become the change you want to see in the world.” I personally don’t want all of humanity to have to walk around armed to the teeth. I personally and fundamentall believe it is an unhealthy approach to one degree or another, that is my opinion based on my experiences and the Senshido Team’s philosphy as well. You don’t agree, you’re entitled, even respected, I was once of that thought process as well therefor I cannot judge or condemn it, but I don’t agree with it nor will I sell it. Once again, I walked both paths… I found the latter to be a more positive and overall healthy approach with manifested success… and I am going to share that and teach that, much like I did with everything else that is Senshido.

I hope this made some sense…

Salut Sergio,

http://www.nds-ch.org/IDT/IDT.html

Birds of a feather flock together! ;D

Bien à toi,

Rod

* people are entitled to change their minds and opinions so quoting shit people wrote days, months or years ago is assuming people never change and remain the same.

* I have found success through it, that concentrating on the violence, focusing on it, fearing it, did indeed mean to one degree or another, consciously or subconsciously, looking for it.

* I know self defense, I know how to defuse, I know how to pick up on pre-contact indicators, I know how to manage my fear and confrontations in general and I also know how to take a man apart with my bare hands, that to me is sufficient enough ‘insurance’ and to carry a blade, a metal pen and a DNA retrieving flashflight or a gun would be way too much overkill. .../... The environment dicates it.

Quand tu enseignes, tu partages, tu expliques, tu argumentes...
